How to Sand Styrofoam Properly — Step by Step

Proper sanding of Styrofoam requires allowing sufficient time after the panels have been glued in place, using even strokes without applying pressure, and continuously checking the surface with a straightedge. Here is the entire process:

  1. Wait at least 24 hours after attaching the Styrofoam panels (the adhesive must be completely dry)
  2. Check the panel joints—mark any gaps larger than 3 mm with chalk
  3. Remove large irregularities first—using a utility knife or a hand rasp—before using a sander
  4. Attach the P40 sandpaper for sanding Styrofoam (included)
  5. In enclosed spaces: wear an FFP2 mask (Procut grinders do not have a vacuum cleaner connection)
